SBRN Funding
The SBRN has been established under a Scottish Funding Council Strategic Research Development Grant (SRDG) for four years from Summer 2005. Details of the award are available here. SRDG awards aim to promote the development of research infrastructure in Scottish Higher Education Institutes. SRDG awards normally run for four years with funds tailing off in years 3 and 4 to provide the opportunity for HEIs to transition the activity to other funding sources.
Unusually for an SRDG, the SBRN also enjoys funding support from SEERAD (Scottish Executive Environment Rural Affairs Department) to fund developments in bioinformatics at the five Scottish Agricultural Biological Research Institutes (SABRIs - see note below). A contribution was also received from Scottish Enterprise to part-fund the activities of the Scottish Bioinformatics Forum (SBForum).
Note: SABRIs are now known as MRPs (Major Research Providers).
